Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to inform its customers that it is migrating its existing core network to the latest network technology to facilitate the ongoing improvements of our network performance and service quality. The migration will allow TM to provide a more integrated service proposition to support a large ecosystem of applications.

The infrastructure migration will take place in two stages on the following dates and time-periods:

Friday, 12 June 2009, 11 pm till Saturday, 13 June 2009, 6 am
Friday, 19 June 2009, 11 pm till Saturday, 20 June 2009, 6 am

Now TMNet is also changing their Streamyx Package Details where you can see the at ‘xv’ which is new, before this I don’t see such like this when signing up.

I don’t know why they do that, as for current and new applications to apply streamyx, this is absolutely unfair and offense user right of usage both customer. We pay their service to connect everybody not just our own country, for what having internet if you cannot access international link, that will be ridiculous.

If you understand what is internet, basically, you access to a website, a internet means international, TMNet must note internet is not same meaning like intranet. Look at the dictionary, internet (means at Wikipedia) a global network of interconnected computers, enabling users to share information along multiple channels. So why TMNet misunderstand the words internet, maybe their english went bad too.

Most of our trasactions now based on international link, if we don’t have or we do have, but certain and sometimes or badly cannot access, our country income will decrease because we leak at international link over internet. The client will be disstisfied and find new other serice, which is better. Why TMNet doing this to their customer, just want gain and enjoy our money…? TMNet must change their nature habbits…

Kaspersky, BitDefender, F-Secure hacked proved by hackersblog.org where the small modifications within the url of these three sites, where they add some special character claimed as their injections into SQL where it connected without login into the website, they have full access into all customer account including administrators…? How wonder such big company have this problem, since they are hacker but hacked…? No idea…

Now even big community in Malaysia such putera.com hacked also? No wonder, one of their staff claimed that their website attacked by unknown dDos attack where these can cause the server if connected more than one server can cause the server timeout or more cause connections interrupted where all these server can’t connect to world users even to the administrator.

I’ve been this experience before, not same case I think, year 2005 if I’m not mistake, where my IPS Forum injected with mass modifications into my SQL table cause my forum cannot access anymore, so I plan to upgrade with latest IPS. And no more hacked, since that last time hacked…

Although what is monitored and the exact name may be different depending on manufacturer, the overall information is the same. Below are some of the common terms and measurements used to judge line quality. Remember these are not hard numbers but simply a generalization of line statistics:

Attainable Line Rate (AKA Synch Rate)
This is the maximum rate at which your modem can connect to the DSLAM if there was no service provisioning limiting the bandwidth. Anything over 2,000Kbps is considered good. The higher the number the better.

Used Line Rate
Your Used ATM Rate (actual service rate) plus bandwidth to cover the overhead and provisioning of the service.

DSL Rate
Your provisioned ATM Rate (actual service rate) plus bandwidth to cover the overhead and provisioning of the service.

Relative Capacity (AKA Line Capacity)
Percentage of your overall available bandwidth used to obtain your service ATM rate. For example; if your max line synch rate was 5888Kbps and you were provisioned on a 1472Kbps service you would be using 25% capacity. 1472/5888=25% capacity. The lower the relative capacity the better, but you can still get maximum speeds (although a less stable connection) even with a very high relative capacity. In other words you could be synching at 1472Kbps with 98% relative capacity and achieve maximum speeds, but you may experience more disconnects.

SN Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving* can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
> 6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
> 7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
> 11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
> 20dB-28dB is excellent
> 29dB or above is outstanding

Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
> 20dB and below is outstanding
> 20dB-30dB is excellent
> 30dB-40dB is very good
> 40dB-50dB is good
> 50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
> 60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

Output or TX Power
How much power modem (upstream) or DSLAM (downstream) is using. Maximum recommended is about 15dB. The lower the power the better for this measurement.

CRC Errors (Cyclic Redundancy Check)
CRC is a method of detecting errors in data transmission. A high CRC count in inself is not really cause for alarm. However, any increase in CRCs after your initial connection is established is a problem and usually points to a physical issue somewhere.

* Interleaving
Interleaving is an error correction protocol that is implemented for your line at the DSLAM. With Interleaving enabled, the DSLAM can correct errors in the data stream it receives before passing that data to your gateway router. It is usually implemented on noisy or marginal lines and can greatly increase sync stability and effectively eliminate “first hop” packet loss. The largest drawback to Interleaving is that it will significantly increase your ping time, specifically to your first hop gateway router.

If Interleaving is not enabled on your line, it is configured as FastPath. FastPath allows the DSLAM to pass the data received from you to the first hop router without performing any error correction. As a result, marginal lines could experience an increase in packet loss and decrease in sync stability (i.e. frequent sync loss). However, FastPath does produce decreased ping times, especially to the first hop router.

I don’t feel like having better speed as they were promised on 31 December 2008 the connections restored.

I think not everyone know about World of Undersea Cables map site and List of international submarine communications cables. Both this is very useful when reffering.

Today is 2nd January 2009, when I go search engine, I could not found any related about latest of this. They promise to repair effected undersea cable on 31st December 2008, but very dissapointed. Still snail speed…

In Malaysia, I could not find the best way to re-route my connections directly to another ISP since major shareholder and coverage in Malaysia hold by TmNet, the dissapointed quality they give.

While Singapore does not affected, Malaysia are ones really affected (Remebering us Taiwan Earthquake Year 2006), and India suffering outage that lost internet to Europe web, phone and private line that damaged 2 in Egypt and Italy communications and one from Malta may have been damaged by an earthquake, that is 3 undersea cable. (Contains mass fiber optics every one undersea cable)

At least one week to make sure this line fixed, Malaysia user like me having difficulty to download link Rapidshare from Europe server and I’ve re-route my link to Hong Kong and Japan instead.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) struggling to help arrangements to repair those cuts fiber optics. By this earlier 2009, most fiber optics schedule to be repaired by an Italian cable ship, was in the area to seek and repair the damaged cable using a remotely operated submarine robots.

It’s been years that Malaysian commercial ISP subscribers have ben crying for a fast and steady connection. Being new in the Market as well may simply buy over subscribers from previous ISP’s. Therefore breaking the TmNet monopoly? Well, we would have to wait and see.

Re: I don’t think P1 will surpass TmNet, in Malaysia all lines are backbone with them (TmNet), and they control ACPN2 and SMW not 100% lolz, while P1 just start to open business.

No Crap on Fair Broadband Policy (not yet, hopefully)

I posted a while ago on regards of TmNet’s Broadband policy which simply sucks. Well for all P2P fans and torrent downloaders, it’s a bliss for them. You would be surprised with the number’s turning out to be huge.

No Phone Lines Needed, Wireless Connectivity

Wireless connectivity. That’s a relieve or headache? I’m not too sure. But everyone’s making a great hype over it. Well I guess it benefits on using it as places with no phone line connection or so but what about wireless receptions? That’s sill to be put to test. Will modem’s pick up the wireless broadcast if there are too much obstacles around? We still need a wireless router for the modems in order to work with any WiFi compliant hardware. Well I hope PCI WiMaX card slots are sold soon. I guess they do. Need to look into that soon. When that happens, then that’s pure wireless connectivity.

Re: P1 have it, but the limited is there, because TmNet is their business successful and control over it.

Price Is The Main Contributing Factor

If reasonable prices are provided or even if its slightly higher then Streamyx, I’m pretty sure people would hop over to P1. But this is what we need to wait for. According to a press statement, P1 has acknowledge to announce the packages prices on August the 19th. That’s not too far long. Hope for a good start price. I’m not surprised if the starting prices are high.

Social Media Marketing

I’m not making it up! There are tons of people like me, who have already been talking a lot about P1 even though its not commercialized yet. The people’s recommendations, well that’s the superior of marketing. Word of Mouth at its best. At least I hope that P1 would listen to tweets.

Still I would like to express that P1 is most valuable company because they have the experiencing WiMax since 10 YEARS ago. I respect to their successful todays, with more than 1k customer, most of them are 90% are positive on this company service quality.
